Ian Petersen

Primac has been an important part of my career as a stock agent – a career which has provided great experience and many wonderful memories.

I joined Goldsborough Mort in Gympie in 1962 just as they were amalgamating with Elder Smith. After stints in Gympie, Emerald, Biggenden, Beaudesert and back to Gympie. I accepted an invitation to join Thos Borthwicks Brisbane as senior livestock buyer and later Livestock Manager.

My next move was to Primac Gympie auctioneering with Hendy and later becoming Branch Manager. In 1987 I left Primac to start my own business with Hendy as a partner and after a couple of years bought him out to bring our son Ash into the business as Ian Petersen & Son.

The “agency game” has given me a wonderful life for which I am most grateful but would have to agree with posts I have seen from a few Old Primac Gurus suggesting the stock and station agency business of old was a considerably more noble profession than it is today. Looking forward to sharing some memories
