“I was the office girl in the Surat Branch from 1974 – 1977. My name was then Lynn Chalkley ( have since remarried). My husband was the teller at the CBC Bank of Sydney in Surat at the time. After Barry Dixon was transferred, the Manager was Bill Roberts. I think he left about 1976 – 77. I was then asked to stay on to keep the Merchandise side of things going till a new manager was appointed. I would type the invoices and Head Office in Brisbane would send out the accounts etc. from what I remember. I left around May 1977 for the birth of my son who was born on the Surat hospital. I was there when the New Royal Hotel burnt down, such a shock to me at the time as we could see it from our house and I was pregnant at the time which was in 1977. I always enjoyed working with Mactaggarts”.
